I was having a crap day yesterday. I was feeling frustrated about some issues, which I won’t go into now.

While surfing Facebook I saw a post from a friend about raising funds for a project in Africa. The project involves teaching Transcendental Meditation (TM) to African refugees mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo. TM has been shown to be very effective in relieving PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

The post said they needed $8,000 to teach a further 400 people – $25 per person. I thought wow, for $25 you get to change a person’s life. I decided to post the Go Fund Me campaign on my Facebook page and also emailed about 40 of my friends.

I immediately felt better after doing this and this morning I found that two friends had decided to support the campaign, one said she’d sponsor four people. That really made my day.

This is experience taught me that a simple act of service to others can dramatically shift how we feel as well as helping others.

And in case you are interested in helping African refugees recover from PTSD here is the link.
